Welcome to the Curú Wildlife Refuge, nestled at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, just in front of the Tortuga Islands. We’re conveniently located approximately 30 minutes from Paquera.

Our refuge spans an impressive 1,496 hectares, encompassing lush tropical forests, serene mangroves, and coastal fields. Nature enthusiasts will delight in exploring our 17 well-maintained hiking trails.

Prepare to be amazed by our remarkable biodiversity. To date, our dedicated researchers have identified 78 distinct mammal species, including the graceful white-tailed deer. As you wander, keep your eyes peeled for charming armadillos and sunbathing iguanas. Look upward to catch glimpses of playful capuchin monkeys, graceful spider monkeys, and the resonating howler monkeys.

Upon your arrival at Curú, our friendly guide will be at your service, providing essential information and guiding you to the captivating trails that await.

For those arriving in their own vehicles, we offer GPS coordinates for easy navigation. However, if you require transportation, please don’t hesitate to inform us. We are more than happy to coordinate affordable transportation for you, ensuring a hassle-free and enjoyable visit to our refuge.

For nature enthusiasts, there’s no place better to immerse yourself in the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica’s western shores than the Curú National Wildlife Reserve. This expansive reserve offers a network of 17 winding trails that meander through diverse landscapes, providing visitors with an intimate encounter with the local flora and fauna.

To date, researchers have meticulously documented the presence of 78 distinct mammal species, 87 reptile species, 232 unique bird species, and an impressive array of over 500 plant species.

As you explore these trails, you’ll often spot white-tailed deer, and don’t be surprised if you come across armadillos or iguanas along the way. The monkey population is robust here, with various species making their homes in the treetops. Keep an eye out for capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys, and the distinctive howler monkeys.

Beyond the forested areas, the reserve’s protected coastline reveals a fascinating marine world. You can even embark on a day trip to Tortuga Island from the nearby beach, offering opportunities for snorkeling and various water-based activities.
